Senior Researcher, Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis
Sarah Khan is a Senior Researcher at the India ZEV Center, University of California, Davis, where she leads critical work in the clean transportation and energy space. Her current work focuses on critical minerals, including demand-supply assessments and modeling to support global energy transitions, as well as policy frameworks to accelerate zero-emission trucking in India.
Previously, Sarah was a Senior Associate at the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), where she contributed to the development of net-zero pathways for India’s transport and buildings sectors. Her work involved modeling decarbonization scenarios using the SAFARI system dynamics model and advancing innovative policy and financing frameworks to support India’s clean energy goals. She has also collaborated with organizations such as the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the International Sustainable Energy Foundation (ISEF) to shape strategies on electric mobility, and sustainable built environments
Sarah holds a Ph.D. in Air Quality Modelling from Jamia Millia Islamia, India and an M.Tech in Environmental Engineering from Delhi Technological University, India. Her research has been widely published, and her insights have been featured in The Hindu, Forbes India, The Wire, and Renewable Watch.
